*under capitalism, financial access is determined by racialization, perceived gender identity, disability/ability, immigration status, and many other imposed factors. these factors also affect things like one's relationship to money and money related trauma. while these situations are not fixed, they can be very hard to overcome for many reasons. here is a breakdown of how you might find where you currently fit on my scale. your postion on the scale might be different at any given time. it might change several times in your life or not at all:

sliding scale_edited.jpg
  •  you often struggle to meet basic needs (rent, food, other bills) due to things like disability, depression, neurodivergence, and have no safety net (savings, family you can borrow money from if needed, etc.). applying for unemployment or other social services is very difficult or impossible for you.

and/or

  • you experience anti-Blackness

  • you are able to meet your basic needs without fear of precarity (losing your housing, not being able to afford food, etc.), but sometimes struggle financially due to limited access from being marginalized/disabled by society. though it might be uncomfortable, you are able to borrow from family or partners, or can easily navigate systemic support like unemployment or disability.

and/or

  • you experience racism/are racialized.

  • you don't usually have to worry about food, housing, or other expenses. you might have savings and enjoy a sustainable relationship to money. you may experience marginalization but the financial impact of it doesn't pose an immediate threat to your ability to thrive.

i believe my scale accurately reflects current systems of wealth distribution, more or less globally. i am also open to partial skill trade/barter if my rates are inaccessible for you. if you have any questions please feel free to contact me!
